Mike Widener has been Of Counsel to the firm since mid-2008. Mike was a shareholder and director of the Firm from 1991 until 2008. There, he continues practicing in the fields of real property and land use law, with emphases in commercial leasing, subdivision and development and financing. Mike represents companies in developing, financing and leasing student congregate housing, senior housing and shopping centers. Mike also continues to advise small and medium-sized professional services vendors, hospitality industry providers, municipalities, fire districts and other businesses and non-profit entities in employment law, purchases and sales of assets, land use matters and enterprise governance.
Taking more time for personal development and public service since 2008, Mike has published more than 30 academic papers and a treatise on commercial leasing, Joint Tenancies: Property Leasing in Cannabis Commerce(American Bar Association, State and Local Government Section, 2018). Mike teaches business law and ethics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott. Mike has volunteered as a member of the founding Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Justice Museum and Learning Center, Habitat for Humanity and Phoenix Sister Cities in various capacities. Today, Mike is a Zoning Adjustment Hearing Officer for the City of Phoenix, and a Member of the Arizona State Liquor Board.
In his spare time, Mike likes to travel abroad with his wife, Peggy to places like France, Australia, Britain, Ireland and Italy. He spends summers in Prescott, Arizona and Conway, Tennessee.
