Mike Widener has been Of Counsel to the firm since mid-2008. He teaches law part-time at the Arizona Summit Law School and in MBA programs in metro Phoenix. Mike was a shareholder and director of the Firm from 1991 until 2008. There, he continues practicing in the fields of real property and land use law, with emphases in commercial leasing, subdivision and development and financing. Mike represents companies in developing and leasing student congregate housing, senior housing and shopping centers. Mike continues to advise small and medium-sized professional services vendors, hospitality industry providers, municipalities and other businesses and non-profit entities in legal areas like employment law, purchases and sales of assets and enterprise governance.
Taking more time for personal development since 2008, Mike has published more than a dozen academic papers and a treatise on commercial leasing in addition to teaching students in law and business schools. Mike has volunteered as a member of the founding Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Justice Museum and Learning Center, Habitat for Humanity and Phoenix Sister Cities in various capacities. Mike likes to travel abroad with his wife, Peggy to places like France, Australia, Ireland and Italy. He spends summers in Prescott, Arizona and Conway, Tennessee.
