Manfred Muecke’s practice focuses on class action litigation, representing plaintiffs in a wide array of complex commercial litigation matters including securities fraud, director and officer liability, consumer fraud, antitrust, insurance, racketeering, and business torts. Mr. Muecke is admitted to practice in the California Supreme Court and United States District Court for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California, respectively.
Mr. Muecke’s efforts have helped recover hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of aggrieved class members including:
- $15 million on behalf of a national class of affected shareholders. Employer-Teamster Joint Council No. 84 Pension Trust Fund, et al.,v. America West Holdings Corp., et al.
- $400 million in damages on behalf of over 90,000 policyholders. In re Conseco Life Insurance Company Cost Of Insurance Litigation, MDL 1610 (C.D. Cal.)
- $280 million trial verdict on behalf of a national class of shareholders. In re Apollo Group Inc. Securities Litigation (AZ)
Mr. Muecke is currently part of a collaborative, large-scale effort that is seeking to recover damages on behalf of a nationwide class of senior citizens who purchased deferred annuities from several insurance companies who are alleged to have employed fraudulent and unlawful marketing practices in selling these annuities to senior citizens.
Mr. Muecke received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2002. During law school, he served as president of the school’s Intellectual Property Law Association where he assembled local business leaders and general counsel on multiple panel discussions to address various topics relevant to the San Diego intellectual property sector. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from California State University Northridge, where he was on the Dean’s List each semester.
Prior to law school, Mr. Muecke worked as a special education teacher in Long Beach, California as part of Americorp’s Teach For America program and is still an active member of the Teach For America alumni corps. Mr. Muecke is currently pursuing his M.B.A. in Management from San Diego State University. Mr. Muecke is also a registered member of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe located in Havasu Lake, California and is a charter member of the board of directors for the Tribe’s economic development corporation.
